| FOUNTAIN PEN REPAIR |
Dr.LAURENCE
OLDFIELD & Dr. JIM MARSHALL
The pen
doctors Jim and Laurence are renowned around the world for their knowledge and
skill in repairing pens and we are honoured that they
have volunteered their time to give us an
insight into the wonderful world of pen repair.
Their is no doubt that collecting fountain
pens and the study of their history is an absorbing activity, but nothing quite
matches the satisfaction of bringing the pens back to their state of health
when they were made. Only by handling a pen and using it in the manner
originally intended can you recapture an appreciation of the quality of the
instrument, and in your imagination, the various people who have written with
it over the years. Their main interest is in pens that are generally regarded
as difficult to restore, including De La Rue Onoto piston fillers, Parker
Vacumatics, Sheaffer Vac-fill, |

Eversharp
piston fillers, Sheaffer Touchdown and PFM, Swan Visofil, Blackbird Topfill,
Ford piston fillers, Waterman safety pens, Conway Stewart piston fillers etc.
They have completed repairs on hundreds of pens in the past year, and many
letters of appreciation have been received
Jim and Laurence
currently write a regular repair feature in the WES Journal and have just
published a new book on pen repair which id dedicated to Arthur Twydle.

Davina Chapman
Davina has been fascinated by the art
of calligraphy ever since she can remember and sees its renaissance as a long
overdue reaction to the conformity of computerised type.

"Calligraphy gives voice to the written word - a poem
or piece of prose gains significance when the words themselves have been
crafted by a skilled hand". Established as a professional scribe since
1981, she went on to win a prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship from the
Royal Warrant Holders Association which enabled further dedicated study with
masters of the art in the UK, Belgium and North America.
Ayoko Makabe
Ayoko Makabe has just completed her degree course in Western
Calligraphy at Roehampton University having already achieved a high level of
accomplishment in Japanese calligraphy in her own country.

She is remaining in London to follow post-graduate studies
and has very enthusiastically agreed to participate in the London Writing
Equipment Show.

| SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS |
MAUCHLINEWARE COLLECTORS
CLUB
The town of Mauchline in southwest Scotland gives its name
to a family of wooden souvenirs made over a period of some one hundred years
ending when the factory of the last producer still operating burnt to the
ground in 1933. The M.W.C.C is dedicated to the accumulation and dissemination
of information regarding these fine antiques.

The MWCC is delighted to be supporting the Writing Equipment
Society's London show and will put on a display of writing-related Mauchline
pieces. This is a rich vein to explore in Mauchlineware with inkwells, pens,
stamp boxes, pen wipers, blotters and paper knives found across the range of
different finishes and in innumerable shapes and sizes. A few such pieces are
illustrated here but to view more try our web-site, link above, but above all
